Welcome to the exciting sport of lacrosse! In this, our eighth season of play, there will be three levels of play: 2nd/3rd/4th grade in-house, 4th/5th/6th Grade and 7th/8th Grade.

Statement of Philosophy
The South Windsor Girls' Youth Lacrosse program (SWGYL) seeks to develop each student-athlete to the best of her potential. The program's philosophy attempts to take the positive elements from the Olympic Creed--"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well." We wish to emphasize the true nature of sports (teamwork, going beyond your expectations, and the rewards of physical activity). This emphasis is at the heart of what we do in the SWGYL program.

With this program, we seek to promote the game of girls' lacrosse, to teach the fundamentals of the game, and to insure that all participants have a rewarding experience.

In our high school program, we insist on solid academic performance and total abstinence from tobacco, alcohol, and any other illegal substance. The same standards for academic excellence and good health will be in effect for grades 2-8. If a player can live up to these expectations, then we want her to be part of this program.

2nd/3rd/4th Grade in-house, 4th/5th/6th Grade and 7th/8th Grade Teams
We aim to keep a low player to coach ratio and will use trained coaches, including parents and qualified high school players to insure quality coaching. All coaches and officers are volunteers.

In-house--This offers an introduction to the game of lacrosse.  Both skill based and scrimmage oriented.  The aim of the program is to offer 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders low impact (no travel) instruction (by current SWHS players) on Saturday mornings for approximately 90 mins.  Learn the basics of the sport while testing your skills in controlled scrimmages.

Season--Activities run from late March through mid-June, 2 to 3 nights per week at the high school's practice facility. All practice sessions in late March and early April focus on drill work for stick skills and fundamentals. Scrimmages, games, and jamborees are then added.

All players supply their own sticks, mouthguards, footwear, etc. We supply goalie and miscellaneous team equipment.

With your fee you receive a one year US Lacrosse membership and its insurance policy. The remainder of this money goes towards buying team equipment, tournament fees, and operating expenses. This is a non-profit club and all monies go directly to the operation of this program. Please note that we will not ask you for any other fees throughout the rest of the season. This money will pay for all tournament fees, miscellaneous charges, etc.

Attendance--Lacrosse is an exciting sport, but as with all sports, a potentially dangerous one as well. Our practices and instruction are designed to limit that risk. A player who misses a number of practices will fall behind the other players skill-wise and with regard to her understanding of the sport. Therefore, we encourage as complete and full attendance as possible.

We look forward to a mutually enjoyable experience.
