February 8, 2008

Dear SWHS Girls’ Lacrosse Players,

2008 Overview

The girls’ lacrosse program has 3 teams: varsity (Coach Duclos and Coach St. Jean), JV (Coach Fleet), and 9th Grade (Coach Raccio). Other coaches: Coach Martin—fitness and core strength and Coach Mark Duclos—volunteer assistant.

Everyone begins on March 17th (specific schedule will follow)

Seniors must make varsity; they may not play on JVs (CIAC rule)

Juniors need to demonstrate an ability to play at the varsity level

Sophomores play on either JV or varsity based on their level of game and fitness

9th Graders have a “no-cut” policy—they play on the appropriate team based on level of game and fitness

“Sports Participation” form—pick up and return to the front office by March 12

Schedule (in packet)—clear your schedule for the spring, but realize this schedule is subject to change. Share this information with your parents!

Tryouts—Tryout criteria and Testing for Tryouts (in packet). Be ready to start outside in the cold.

Equipment (stick, goggles, etc.)—see me with your equipment questions.

Stick work and Running (distance and speed work)—“wall ball” and running routine suggestions (check swlacrosse.org/“Off Season Training”).

Helpful Hints on How to Make the Varsity or Junior Varsity team.

Be in GREAT Shape. Your fitness is your responsibility and totally within your control. Be ready to run and play hard from the very start.

Have your stick game in midseason form. Tryouts last 3 days—you won’t have time to work yourself into game shape, so have your “game” ready.

2008 Season Challenge

The varsity team has a conference championship to defend!

Overall goal for 2008 is to raise the level of play on ALL levels. We need more players competing at their highest level. In order for that to happen we need more players entering the season fully prepared and ready to excel.

If enough of you accept this challenge and prepare for the 2008 season, we’re going to have a lot of fun!
